Hong Kong, situated on the south east coast of the People's Republic of China, covers 1,098 square kilometres. The region is home to nearly seven million people and English and Cantonese are widely spoken.

Hong Kong has one main airport Chek Lap Kok International, which is serviced by over 50 airlines, and there are good transport links between the Central Business District - simply called 'Central' - and the airport.


Hong Kong is a hub of trading and is the headquarters of many international financial services corporations. It's a far cry from the incense production the area was formerly famous for - the name Hong Kong means 'fragrant harbour' in Cantonese.

Table manners are relaxed in Hong Kong, although there are certain rules of etiquette. When in doubt, watch what others do. Never eat the last piece of food from the serving tray. Burping is considered a compliment.

Business cards are exchanged after initial introductions. Have one side of your business card translated into Chinese, with the Chinese characters printed in gold, since it is an auspicious color.
